Aneta Kowalski Awarded Second Year of HHMI Funding

The PSTP is thrilled to announce that current research year student Aneta Kowalski was awarded a second year of Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) funding!  Aneta conducts research with Erin Kershaw, MD in the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Medicine.  Her project is titled “CREBRF regulates cardiomyocyte bioenergetics and survival.”

The Florida native and George Washington alum is indescribably excited about her second year of funding: “I am extremely grateful and proud to be an HHMI Medical Fellow for another year. Over the past year, I had the opportunity to ask my own questions and design my own experiments - and I realized that this is the first time in my scientific journey that I have felt independent in the lab! I am excited to continue building my career in science by combining my medical interest in cardiology with cardiometabolic disease research, and I look forward to future HHMI conferences to network and see my Med Fellow friends!”

Excellent work, Aneta!!!
