The PSTP is pleased to announce that James O’Brien, a rising research-year student in the program, was recently awarded the Paul Calabresi Medical Student Fellowship from the PhRMA Foundation. This grant will support his project entitled “Nitro-oleic acid, an electrophilic fatty acid nitroalkene derivative, regulates innate immune cell metabolism and attenuates effector function in a murine model of LPS-induced acute lung injury.” James will be conducting his research year in the laboratory of Dr. Bruce Freeman and will be co-mentored by Dr. Stacy Wendell in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology.

James graduated from Providence College in 2015 with an undergraduate degree in Biology. Prior to joining the PSTP, James conducted research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the National Cancer Institute. At the NCI, James worked under the mentorship of Ira Pastan, MD. In his free time, James enjoys fishing, playing soccer, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
